« on: December 01, 2009, 12:10:17 PM »

Guys I have this 700r4 AT in my rig. The tranyy has been running well till a few weeks ago, then i adjusted the detent cable again and now it wont shift out of first gear. I have tried adjusting it over and over again. Any help and or information would be great.

still seems like a dentent cable issue. if it seems right on the top side i would check the inside where it goes in to the trans. its easy to make sure its hooked up.

what i have found is that if the cable is too tight it will upshift very late and when you let off the gas (will continuosly rev up high and only shift when letting off the throttle)

THE ONLY REASON I SAY CABLE IS I LIKE TO START WITH THE SIMPLE BEFORE I GET INTO THE TOUGHER! THE GOVERNER IS A POSSIBILITY BUT THE CABLE IS SIMPLE AND CHEAP!

Isnt the governor vacuum actuated?  Maybe the vacuum source is not correct?
Is it supposed to come off the carb or off the manifold?
Since I have a standard transmission this is not an issue for me...

the 700r4's that I ave came acrossed where always a electronic or power wire that runs to the trans for the convertor to lock up.  No Vacuum.  I have to agree with everyone a head of me that I would start with the cable and then go to the govenor.  The reason I think this is that you stated that it was running fine until you adjusted the detent cable.  Start there and see where that takes you.  When was the last time you serviced your trans.  Maybe you have a piece of filter or something pluging a passage way.

Same thing happened to my Corvette, theres a dome shaped cover on the side of the trans.Pop it off and the govenor will slide out.Theres a plastic gear on the bottom that shatters.

what i think happened to robs tranny is that the rod came off the cable from when he was messing with it, he should pull off the cable from the trans and make sure the rod is still hooked up to the cable
